Hello! 🗺

I am Alejandro, an expert in data science and geotechnologies mainly for environmental studies and land use planning applications, and currently based in London, UK.

I am passionate about technological developments, especially those that have a social impact. I have participated in a variety of multidisciplinary projects supported by data analysis. In my free time I enjoy my family 👪, hiking 🏔, cycling 🚴, and tasting varieties of Coffee (as a good representative of my home country, Colombia 🇨🇴).

I hold a PhD in Physical Geography with a MSc. in Environmental Monitoring, Modelling and Management at King's College London. In collaboration with researchers from the Alliance of Bioversity International-CIAT in my postgraduate studies, I developed a solid foundation in data science and big data computing in the cloud to propose methodologies for spatial and temporal characterization of the drivers of deforestation in the Amazon biome from satellite products and geospatial layers.

I am affiliated with The Alan Turing Institute as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. Thanks to the support of a diverse team of professionals in my project, the Turing institute and communities I am part of, I have been able to focus on the development of open source software and tools for environmental science. I also receive training in open science leadership, sharing my experiences in my blog and notes.

You can read more of my contributions, qualifications and talks in my Curriculum Vitae.
